A Quick Guide on Choosing Garage Doors

Photo Credit: iStock Photo When an innovative caveman first came up with the idea of a door, little did he know that he will change human society forever.  The invention of the door hails the birth of privacy and security.  Thousands of years later, humans still protect everything with doors especially their homes and beloved cars. If left unprotected, cars can fall victim to vandals and other threats. Garage doors vary in style and functionality. When choosing a garage door, a person has to consider whether he has a long or short driveway. For Short Driveways If space is an issue, roller garage doors would be more suitable since they don t need much area to work on.  This garage door is made up of aluminum attached to one another horizontally to form a metallic curtain attached to a horizontal drum overhead. When the drum begins turning around, the garage door opens. It closes when the drum turns in the opposite direction. Another choice for garage with short driveways is the ove

Top Five Tips for Maintaining Your Garage Door

Photo Credit: iStock Photo Very rarely does a garage door form any sort of a priority in people’s minds—up until the point that they stop working and leave you out in the cold or heat. That’s because we tend to use our garage doors with a single-minded sense of automation that it hardly passes our consciousness. The problem there is that, more often than not, when they do happen to break down, it usually is pretty serious and causes a terrible hassle when you can’t get in or out of your home. The trick here is that it’s actually really simple to maintain your garage doors. 1.Lubricate Often times, the reason that a garage door will break down is that over time, the lubrication dries up and friction starts to wear down the more vulnerable, small parts like rollers, hinges, tracks, hinges, latches, and others. A good squirt from penetrating solvents like WD-40 is enough to keep you going. If any rust builds up and locks the torsion spring, a little oil applied will get it up a

Six Safety Tips for Garage Door Installation

To stay safe when installing garage doors, here are six safety tips to keep in mind: Check the springs and change them when necessary. There are two types of springs to check: the torsion springs and extension springs. If there are squeaky sounds or quirky movements when raising and lowering the garage door, it may be due to some problem with either spring. Have the springs checked as frequently as needed and replace it when necessary. Examine your cables. Garage door cables prevent the springs from flinching and allow a broken spring to fall safely. Check the cables. Fully open the garage door and place a couple of c-clamps below the door’s lowest wheel to prevent the door from sliding down. Then, carefully unhook the springs, change the cable and hook up the springs again. Do not unhook the cables if the tension springs have not been released yet. Careful with your fingers! Most DIY-ers injure their fingers by pulling down the garage door with their fingers in between the panels.

A 6-Step Guide to Adjusting a Belt Drive Garage Door Opener

Perhaps the most popular mechanism for an automatic garage door opener is the belt drive. Belt driven openers are a little more expensive than chain or screw drives, but they are also quieter. They also don’t need a lot of maintenance to keep them going for at least seven to ten years. The only thing you need to do with a belt-driven opener is to adjust the belt occasionally. This is a very simple job to do yourself – In fact all you need to do is follow this simple 6-step guide. All you need to get started is a step ladder, a 7/16 inch wrench and a flat head screwdriver. #1 Close the Garage Door Close the door using the automatic door opener and secure it. Double check that it’s properly closed and let everyone at home know you will be working on the door (so nobody attempts to open it while you are adjusting the belt). #2 Disconnect the Power to the Door Opener You should find the power outlet for the door opener mounted on the ceiling. Use the step ladder to reach it and unpl

For emergency Roseville garage door repairs it’s important to get in touch with an expert repair service provider in your area.
Here are a few things you need to remember when it comes to garage door maintenance:
The Importance of Lubrication
Keeping your garage door well-lubricated is one of the most basic garage door maintenance tips there is. Doing so keeps your garage door working perfectly all year round. Regular lubrication should be carried out three times to four times per year. You may use regular engine oil or other lubricant oils, as long as it is not grease, or any other type of sticky lubricant. Grease often results in sticky surfaces, which in turn collects dirt, dust, hair, and other particles. Over time, a black paste can form throughout the garage door hinges, rollers, and springs. For proper maintenance, don’t hesitate to contact your trusted Folsom garage door services company.
Spring System Maintenance
Without proper maintenance, rust can collect in your garage door springs, resulting in breakage. This is why it’s important to ensure a rust-free, smoothly operating spring system on your garage door at all times. Garage Door Tracks Installation and Repairs

Garage Door Tracks Installation and Repair.

To keep a garage door moving swiftly and smoothly, the rollers and garage door tracks have to be secured in place. The rollers are guided by the tracks so that the garage door functions and travels with ease. Over time however the tracks may become bent out of shape or damaged by rust. This often necessitates immediate garage door track repairs. A professional garage door services company can help in the installation, re-installation, repairs, and maintenance of garage door tracks.
Types of garage door tracks
These tracks come in different basic types, which may be applicable for residential or commercial and industrial garage doors. Most residential doors are outfitted with standard lift tracks which have a vertical track and a curved area. Vertical lift systems on the other hand are commonly associated with industrial and commercial garage doors. High lift systems, which are essentially a combination of the standard and vertical lifts, may be applied to both residential and commercial garage doors. Most residential garage doors nowadays make use of either the vertical lifts or the high lifts.
Troubleshooting the tracks
Replacing or repairing the tracks may be necessary to ensure that the garage door travels smoothly all the time. Troubled tracks can be attributed to several reasons. Broken cables may cause door bending and consequently bend the tracks as well. Lack of proper lubrication, especially on the roller stems, may also lead to the bending of horizontal tracks. And in the case of vertical tracks, lock strikers can scrape at them, resulting in eventual track splits. Other causes may point to rust formation, metal fatigue, and shifting of the foundation of homes, which will need track reinstallation and realignment.
Getting the right repair services
An expert garage door repair company will provide repair solutions for door tracks, on top of the basic installation and realignment services. Bent tracks can be restored to their original shape so that rollers will function seamlessly again. In cases where in the home structure has experienced some shifting leading to misalignment of tracks, it is necessary to reinstall the track to ensure proper and improved movement.

3 Essential Safety Tips for Garage Doors

As the heaviest moving item in most homes, garage doors can be the source of many injuries and accidents. By taking appropriate safety measures, however, you’ll not only keep your garage door working properly, but will also prevent such accidents or injuries from happening. Your family’s safety should always be kept in mind, and following safety tips will definitely go a long way in keeping your garage door safe for your family.  Read more about our local Folsom garage door services.
Here are some of the things that you should consider:
  1. Child Safety
Children can become injured when their fingers get pinched by door panels or when the garage door closes above them. The probability of children getting injured by a garage door grows higher when children spend a large amount of time playing in the garage.
Always be sure to keep your garage child-safe. Never leave the garage door remote control or the opener control button within the reach of young children.  Make sure to talk to your children about playing safe in the garage. If you have very young children or toddlers, it’s highly recommended that you install child-safe door panels that do not pinch small fingers.
  1. Emergency Preparedness
Injuries from accidents can become worse when you are not prepared to respond to such emergencies or accidents. It’s a big help if you and your family members learn beforehand how to operate the emergency release features of your garage door. Test the door’s emergency release feature and make sure that your door is properly balanced and can easily be opened and closed manually when the emergency release is used.  Check out our Granite Bay garage door repair page about a free estimate for garage door repairs.
  1. Regular Maintenance
Make it a regular monthly habit to inspect your garage door for signs of wear and malfunction. Just look closely at all door parts especially the springs, cables and pulleys. You can also prevent the accumulation of rust by regularly applying a thin coating of lubricant or oil on the door parts. If you notice anything that looks suspicious, contact a garage door repairman to check and repair your garage door. Do not attempt to repair or replace the parts on your own without first consulting a professional as the high tension in the door parts require a trained hand.
So there we have it. By following these safety measures, you’ll be able to prevent many of the most common injuries and accidents that happen with garage doors.
